Cypherpunks co-founder Timothy C. May breathed his last earlier this week as per a Facebook post by one of his friends Lucky Green.
In his social media post, Green informed that May died of natural causes in his residence in California earlier this week.
May was in the news for authoring “The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto” published in 1992 in which he brought to light some components of the currently existing decentralized cryptocurrencies. May co-founded the Cypherpunks together with Eric Hughes and John Gilmore in 1992. Cypherpunks is rated as the pioneer and one of the single most effective pro-cryptography organization in history. The State did its best to prevent the spreading of this technology due to concerns over national security, misuse by drug peddlers, and scare from social disintegration.
In earlier research, May disclosed that many of the concerns as mentioned above are inevitable due to crypto imbalances which would allow national treasures in the form of illicit and stolen materials to be traded freely by the criminals.
In the social media post, Green states that May might have died of natural causes even though a post-mortem is yet to confirm his cause of death.
As per one of the leading publications last year, many believe that Cypherpunks’ bold movement demands equal credit as much of Satoshi Nakamoto for laying down the foundation of cryptography. Satoshi Nakamoto is a fictitious name of a person or a group of people who developed Bitcoin, authored its white paper and deployed Bitcoins original reference implementation. Satoshi published a paper, titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” in October 2008 and released the first software that launched the Bitcoin network in January 2009. The creator of Bitcoin was in the news due to their communication with the Cypherpunks community before Bitcoin whitepaper released in 2008.
As per the publication in a dedicated analysis, tracking of cryptocurrencies by government agencies seems to have increased, but offenders have their own ways to avoid it.
Edward Snowden who is a whistle-blower and privacy advocate believe that Bitcoin which is the leading cryptocurrency is not the most favorable solution for private peer-to-peer dealings. He considers ZCash which is a cryptocurrency based on a decentralized Blockchain aiming for making transactions more private the “most interesting” altcoin, due to focus on privacy. Zcash token transactions, like Bitcoin’s, are usually published in a public Blockchain, but unlike Bitcoin, Zcash allows users to disclose private information selectively.
